In collaboration with the Danish Church Aid (DCA) through the Joint Country Programme Zambia, Response Network Zambia is implementing a pioneering Community Lead Approach Project in the Nampongo Community of Kazungula District. The unique feature of this project consists of empowering the community to manage their own funding and determine their preferable developmental initiatives.
Within this framework, it was a unanimous decision by the Nampongo community to establish two boreholes aimed at supplying water for mulabalaba and Makowa Village as well as for Sikabwe and Likonyi village.
Yesterday, Response Network joined forces with local district officers - Kazungula District Health Surveillance Officer Kelvin Munkombwe, along with Chinyama Syasyiipa, Senior Health Inspection Officer from Kazungula Town Council. Together they gathered representatives from all four villages for an informative session held at Nampongo Primary School. Topics discussed included water safety, sanitation protocols, hygiene standards as well as sustainable management practices regarding borehole usage.
One primary anticipated outcome is preventing diseases related to impure water while simultaneously encouraging improvements concerning sanitation practices alongside hygiene routines which should ultimately lead to better overall health outcomes within these communities.
